Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:7-9 NIV
In the natural realm, we all look forward to payday. It’s the day that we are rewarded for all the hard work that we did in the previous weeks. But there’s a payday that comes in the Spirit realm as well, and it follows the principle “you reap what you sow.” This can be either for good or bad as Galatians 6:8 states. If you sow resentment, anger, bitterness, maliciousness, gossip, slander, evil, that’s what will eventually come your way. You will reap what you sow…that’s a guarantee. Payday may not show up immediately, but it’s coming down the pike. Romans 6:23 (NCV) is very clear about what happens if you live a sinful life: “The payment for sin is death…” A lot of people think that since they may not get an immediate consequence for the sin that they’ve gotten away with it, but scripture says, “God cannot be mocked.” One thing that you may not realize is that the consequences of sin can show up in any area of your life, and can manifest in any form. If there are any areas in your life that are out of order, do an inventory of how you’ve been living and you may find the root of your problem.
On the other hand, if you sow love, patience, gentleness, time, money, peace, mercy, forgiveness, kindness, etc., that’s what will come back to you. The key to remember in sowing, especially sowing good seed, is that, again, you may not see an immediate result, but you can’t give up. Galatians 6:9 says not to get weary in doing good because in the “proper time” you will reap your harvest…if you don’t give up. I know it’s tempting to want to see immediate results, especially when we live in a society where everything is “quick.” Maybe we should adopt the mindset, “I’m going to sow good seed just because it’s right and I don’t care if I never see a result.” This means your motives are pure and even if you never see payday in your natural lifetime, you’ll still do what God said, just because He said it’s the right thing to do and you believe His Word. We don’t know when the Lord is coming back, so even if you don’t see it now, I guarantee you that your reward will be stored in heaven waiting for you!
Whatever you want or need, start giving it away—sowing it. If you need friends, show yourself to be friendly (see Proverbs 18:24); if you need money, give sacrificially (see Mark 12:41-44); if you need mercy, be merciful (see Luke 6:36); if you need forgiveness, start forgiving people that have done you wrong (see Matthew 6:14-15); if you need love, give love (see Matthew 22:39); if you need encouragement, encourage others (see 1 Thessalonians 5:11); if you need a blessing, be a blessing (see Acts 20:35); if you need peace, make peace (see Matthew 5:9). Whatever you need is, make sure to sow the proper seed. Just keep doing what you know is right and doing what the Word of God says, and He will repay you in due time. Just know that when God pays up, it will blow your mind!
As long as we are here on earth, the principle of “seed, time, and harvest” will be in effect (see Genesis 8:22). Please don’t deceive yourself thinking that God doesn’t notice what you are doing, and that it won’t catch up with you. There is payment “now” in the earth, and there will be an ultimate payment when the Lord comes back. In Revelation 22:12 (HCSB), Jesus says, “”Look! I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me to repay each person according to what he has done.” This is the ultimate payday. It’s time to start analyzing how we live our lives because we only get one shot to get it right. Luckily, if you haven’t been living the way that you know you should, you can repent, ask for forgiveness, and turn your life around to reap better paydays on earth and in heaven. If you think you can get by scot free, you clearly don’t believe the Word of God. We will reap what we sow; so sow good things, and look forward to payday!
