God Shaped Hole

It’s far more than that! I consider everything else worthless because I’m much better off knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. It’s because of him that I think of everything as worthless. I threw it all away in order to gain Christ.

Philippians 3:8 GW

The singer Plumb stated in her song, “God Shaped Hole,” “And the restless soul is searching; there’s a god-shaped hole in all of us; and it’s a void only He can fill.” This is true in every sense of the word because so many people have empty, unfulfilling lives, and because of this, they are looking for anything to make them happy. This emptiness forces people to turn to casual, senseless sex, food, social media, drugs, alcohol, the pursuit of money, gambling, and quick, meaningless relationships. The apostle Paul stated that everything (everything we purposely and vainly pursue) is worthless if he didn’t know and have God. I’m sure you can look at anyone who is “searching” and see that even if they find what they “think” they are looking for, it amounts to nothing because they are not searching for God. We don’t need to be filled with “stuff,” but what we need is Jesus and all His fullness in our lives. Psalms 145:16 (NIV) says that God satisfies the desires of  every living thing; so whatever you need, it can be found in God.  God makes everything right, so if you have Him at the forefront, there is no need to search for anything else to make you happy because your joy, happiness, and fulfillment is found in Him and Him alone. People are always in the pursuit of happiness, but the real pursuit needs to be of Jesus; and when He takes a hold of your life, all the pieces are put back together.
