Like a Child Jesus called the children over to him and said to the disciples, “Let the little children come to me! Never send them away! For the Kingdom of God belongs to men who have hearts as trusting as these little children’s. And anyone who doesn’t have their kind of faith will never get within the Kingdom’s gates.”  Luke 18:16-17 TLB

Children are a beautiful example of the simplicity of life. They don’t have a care in the world and they put their complete trust in their parents. They’re not worried about if they will eat, if they will have clothes to put on, if the bills are paid, if they will have a roof over their head, or what problems are going on in the world. Each day is a day of excitement and God wants your life to be the same way. This is not to say that you just blow off your responsibilities and go through life oblivious. In contrast, what a childlike mentality does mean is that you wake up each day trusting God with everything that concerns you and believe that He will take care of you. You give every care to Him and enjoy your days like you don’t have a problem in the world. Now that’s simplicity at its finest.

Jesus said that in order to enter the Kingdom you need to become like a child.  Children don’t worry, but rather they enjoy their lives and so should we. They trust their parents, and since we are God’s children, we have the opportunity to have an even greater trust in our Heavenly Father because He owns everything and rules everything. When children want something and they’ve been promised they will get it, every day is exciting because they don’t know when it’s coming, but they have faith that it will come eventually. God has promised us many spiritual blessings in His Word, and what He promises, He will deliver. We just need to be patient and have childlike faith.

The next time you encounter a child, carefully observe their behavior. They laugh, they play, they know that they will be taken care of, and they enjoy their lives. Who wouldn’t want to live like that? The good news is that God wants us to live the same way.  We were children once until time and circumstances made us grow up and changed our mindset and attitude about life. God is very clear that unless we approach Him with childlike faith, the Kingdom is not ours. God wouldn’t tell us to do something if it wasn’t good for us. It’s time to downgrade our attitudes and take on the attitude of a child as Jesus mandated. What do you have to lose by having faith? Honestly, you have absolutely nothing to lose, but everything to gain by completely trusting God. You have been given permission to become a child, so start your transformation!
