He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise for our God. Many people will learn of this and be amazed; they will trust the Lord.
Singing songs to God is a great way to boost your spirits and to worship the Lord. There are angels in Heaven whose sole job is to sing and praise God all day long (see Revelation 4:8). If the angels who are in God’s presence daily are singing to Him day and night, what more of an honor do we have to do the same with the Holy Spirit residing in us. God is constantly blessing us so there is always something to sing about. Singing doesn’t necessarily mean having to sing a particular song—you can sing with prayer, with thanksgiving, and even with your testimony. The purpose is to lift a thankful voice to your Lord and Savior for being good; but most importantly, being good all the time in every circumstance.
You can sing a new song that you create or one that you hear, but the purpose is to enter into God’s presence and worship Him and Him alone. New songs put new promises in your spirit to meditate on. It helps you to remember the things that God has done, what He is currently doing, and what He will do in the future. It fills you with a new hope and a new confidence. New songs keep your mind off your problems and it puts the focus on God. God loves music and He most definitely loves praise; and when you put those two together, He is smiling in Heaven. If you don’t have a singing voice that doesn’t matter to God. What matters is that you are praising and worshipping Him with the tools that you do have. He gave it to you, and when you praise and worship Him, you are giving it back to Him because He is worthy.
Give it a try! Make a conscience effort to sing a new song every day. Give Him praise for how far he has brought you. You will see not only will it lift your spirits and keep you focused on God, but it will please the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. It’s a win-win situation.
Come, let us praise the Lord! Let us sing for joy to God, who protects us! Let us come before him with thanksgiving and sing joyful songs of praise. Psalms 95:1-2 GNT
