I planted, and Apollos watered, but God made it grow.
1 Corinthians 3:6 GW
Everything has a time and place (see Ecclesiastes 3:1-8), and we are just living out our parts in God’s script for humanity. You’re on your job for a reason, you have the friends and family in your life for a reason, each relationship was for a reason, every circumstance is for a reason etc. Nothing is by accident, but it’s all by God’s design and purpose.
In our frustration, we may want to give up on people when they fail to take our advice, but what we don’t realize is that our words are being “planted” and that in and of itself may be our only job regarding that particular person. It may be another’s job to come along and water that seed, but when it’s all said and done, God is the One that has to do the real work in that person. God uses us all in different ways, and we all we have a part to play, whether big or small. I personally like to see the fruits of my labor, but I had to learn the hard way that I may never see the results when I want to see them. That situation may not turn around until weeks, months, or even years from the time I planted the seed. In our human effort, we try to change people, but this is futile like “chasing the wind” as Solomon says. God is the only one who can change any person or situation. Do your part and let God do the rest.
Our mission is to get our orders from God each day. Every day is an opportunity to encourage someone; a hug, a kind word, or a smile could make the biggest difference in someone’s life. The best way to win someone is with your lifestyle. People should be able to see Jesus in you daily. They should want to be around you because your aura radiates positivity and hope. People should be drawn to you because they can see hope. Let God use you to reach the lost. Believe it or not, even if you can’t see it or feel it, you are making a difference in each person’s life you encounter.
Each day pray, “Lord who do you want me to encourage, motivate, and/or bless today? Present the situation or send me someone you want me to help. Anoint my mouth to say the right things to make a difference in that person’s life. I thank you for the victory in advance. In Jesus name, Amen.”
Meditation Scripture (s):
Don’t say anything that would hurt [another person]. Instead, speak only what is good so that you can give help wherever it is needed. That way, what you say will help those who hear you. Ephesians 4:29 GW
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV
