“Go in through the narrow gate, because the gate to hell is wide and the road that leads to it is easy, and there are many who travel it. But the gate to life is narrow and the way that leads to it is hard, and there are few people who find it.
Matthew 7:13-14 GNT
Following Jesus requires total attention, surrender, humility, dedication, and perseverance. Anything that is worth having is worth fighting for. Once you make the decision to follow Christ, there will be a lot of changes that will happen in your life. It’s something about when God gets ahold of you, things start to happen. Everything that you used to give to your flesh to satisfy it that isn’t Godly will have to be surrendered. It is true that if you are a Christian there are certain things that you cannot do, but you need to understand that whatever God says to do or not to do is for your own good. He knows the beginning from the end, a concept that you cannot grasp in the natural, so He knows what’s best for you in every single situation that you will ever face. It may seem like you are giving up a lot and your life may seem “boring,” but it is better to be “boring” than to be on your way to hell.
As today’s Scripture says, many people do not follow this path because it is hard. People would rather do what is comfortable and go with the flow rather than follow what the Word of God says, which requires sacrifice, submission, and a surrender of self. Romans 8:5 states that if we are under the control of our sinful nature that we will never please God. God is pleased when we follow and obey Him. Our flesh will always be against what God wants (see Galatians 5:17). Therefore, it’s important to be led by the Spirit. Following the Spirit leads to life, but the flesh will send you straight to hell, and if you are following the world’s standards which is all about me, me, me, and getting what you want, you are setting your own destructive course. Giving up things isn’t that bad when you replace it with what God wants. And when God deals with you, what He asks you to remove, He will replace with something that will first please Him, but also give you great satisfaction. Following God isn’t a popular thing in the world, but only in God is where your real life begins. Persevere on the narrow path and know that whatever you think you are losing, you will be gaining freedom by letting it go. Yes, it will be hard, be we are anointed for hard. God will give you the grace and strength to follow Him if you will show some commitment and dedication to live a life wholly dedicated to Him and His will. You can’t be on both paths, so today, choose which path you will follow, and I urge you to choose wisely!
Meditation Scripture (s):
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life[a]—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:16-17 ESV).
“If you don’t go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don’t deserve me. If your first concern is to look after yourself, you’ll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you’ll find both yourself and me” (Matt. 10:38-39 MSG).
